Training Log and tracking
Some of us will be training on a treadmill, track, trail or just running in our neighborhoods. If you need a way to track your run/walk, you can use this free website.

I like to change up my running course and it helps me figure out my miles I've totaled. There is so much information here and I love the training log, which I encourage you all to use. Please post what you have used to log your training and how it's going!

10K Training Plans
Trainer Amy Truitt created these running plans and I thought I would post them for all to see. Scroll through them to see if there is something that would fit your training the best. There are some for advanced and elite runners. I believe this was written for track training.

New Training Program
I really like this training program. One is for 7 weeks and the other is for 10 weeks. It is pretty easy to understand for those who are not really runners.

There is also this program.

Training for the 10K
I am looking for training programs for the 10K. I will post my own program tomorrow, but I am open to those who would like to share.
1 for Beginner running
1 for Walking
1 for Intermediate running
1 for advanced running
They should be easy to read and understand since we will not be hosting a training group. These programs should be easy to read and understand. It's ok if they are for distance or time or both. I'm interested to see what we come up with for training!

Shoes
Let's talk about running shoes. Some of us want and need to get new shoes and I can tell you, it is worth every penny! I was going to write about this subject, but I found a website that has all the information that I would like convey. Check it out.
http://www.runnersrescue.com/Running_Shoes_Tips.htm
I strongly recommend going to an athletic shoe store that specializes in running shoes. They will look at your gait and help you select the right shoe for your feet. You might hear words like pronate or supinate and learn something new about your feet. Below are a few stores in all parts of Portland that are specialist running stores. Look at their websites and find one nearest you. If you know of any more, please post them.

Training Tip
This morning I was talking with a coworker about running (he's training for a marathon, and has done triathlons and centuries and stuff) and he recommended a couple websites to check out for good training programs. I think the 8k training program would be a good place for most people to start, but give it a look and let me know what you think!

82 days!
Hey there,
I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend and a great, safe 4th of July! Did you manage to avoid eating too many hot dogs or getting sunburned? Ha! Maybe if there was a little more sun, that would have been an issue. :)
Anyway, the weather is looking amazing this week -- perfect RUNNING WEATHER!! I don't know about all of you, but I think I'll make Wednesday my "long run" day. If anyone wants to get together to crank out a couple of miles after work that day, leave a comment here so we can coordinate. I'll be free around 6pm, and will be in the Southeast. I can venture pretty much anywhere though!
Okay, see you all in class tomorrow!

85 days and counting!
Hello and welcome to all of you rock stars out there who have committed to doing the race! For those of you who don't know yet, this blog is counting down the days until the Oregon Road Runners Club 27th Anniversary Best Dam 10K Run & Walk taking place in Estacada, OR on Saturday, September 25, 2010. Here is the link.
This all started thanks to Becca Arnold's commitment to do the race, and it caught on like wildfire. I'm not sure how many people have agreed to run it, but that's one of the great things about this blog. We are asking everyone who has committed to the race, to leave comments, suggestions, training tips, status updates, or just come to bitch about how hard your runs have been this week. :) Basically, we want to continue the feeling of community that we have established either through working out together, working out with Janan (STRUT Fitness' bad ass owner), or just saying hi at the Studio.
We all need each other through this, no matter your experience or fitness level. Ultimately, we want to see each face at the finish line. That all starts here and now. So, please, participate as much or as little as you'd like (much is preferred).
Alright, it's time to ignore that rain and put your running shoes on. Brave that rain, push yourselves, and step into your greatness. One foot in front of the other, baby.
